Sgt. Roxx Weapon of Miss Distraction - Sgt. Roxx s'est illustrré dans les années 1990 sur la scène de Chicago, mélangeant les influences majeures du moment, guitares de Lillian Axe, un côté un peu brut de Ratt, et du sleaze à la Motley Crue.

Leur album «Weapon of Miss distraction" comprend 19 enregistrements, des versions remasterisées de "Push N Squeeze" (1990) qui se vend jusqu'à $ 400 aux enchères sur eBay, ainsi que 14 autres encore jamais entendus des enregistrements archivés, y compris des démos rares pour CBS Records et des enregistrements live.

Dans la série des sorties du label EÖNIAN qui nous fait découvrir le meilleur de l’Underground Hard Rock US de la fin des 80’s et du début des 90’s, c’est au tour de SGT ROXX de passer sur mon lecteur !

Tout d’abord félicitation au groupe pour ce fabuleux titre et cette très belle pochette « Sexy » qui sera rajoutée dans la prochaine mise à jour de notre célèbre galerie photo…. !

Un groupe de beaux gosses avec un look sympathique, c’était à l’époque un gage de qualité, surtout aux USA en ces temps ou le « Hair Metal » était à son top !

Mais le physique ne fera pas tout pour SGT ROXX… du déjà entendu dans le registre des habituels WHITE LION ou SHARK ISLAND (surtout pour les compositions de 1995) et MOTLEY CRÜE pour le reste.

Rien à redire, les amateurs apprécieront surement, surtout si vous êtes pour la découverte de groupes moins médiatisés, mais de qualité.

Vous trouverez les cinq titres du EP qui est sorti en 1990, aujourd’hui est un vrai collector chez les fans de Hard US, Push N Squeeze. Il y a également cinq titres de 1995, cinq titres de 1992 (sur lequel a officié le batteur de TYRANTS REIGN un groupe culte de Heavy Metal des 80’s), deux titres en Live de 1994 et un inédit de 1994.

Si les premiers titres m’ont bien plu, rapidement les compositions deviennent Hard Rock très mélodique, le CD perd de son intensité, et sur la fin on tombe dans du poussif MOTLEY CRÜE…
Il faut dire que 19 titres et près de 1 heure 20 ça fait un peu long pour des non initiés.

If ever a Sgt. Roxx needed a proper reissue it was Chicago's Sgt. Roxx. Paying hundreds of dollars for the Sgt. Roxx's rare 6 song Push And Squeeze EP is insanity and buying one of the cheap bootlegs on the market is plain stupid. Now we finally have the real thing, Weapon Of Miss Distraction, a CD that is filled to the brim with every Sgt. Roxx song you can think of - and some your probably couldn't.

Recorded between 1990 and 1994, Sgt. Roxx is another fine example of bad timing. These guys had it all, the sound, the looks and the desire to make it big in a Sleaze that was becoming as extinct as the dinosaur. Their sound fell somewhere between the sleaze of early Motley Crue and the glam of Poison, not exactly an original formula, but one that Sgt. Roxx played exceptionally well.

With so many songs included on Weapon Of Miss Distraction there is no denying that there will be some good and some bad. There really isn't anything horrible here though, at worst you could say it is derivative. But you can't deny how cool tracks like "All You Need", the shuffling "Rockin' Horse", "(Don't Do) What Your Mama Sayz", "Don't Cry" and the live "My Lady" (vocalist Jack Adams does his best Kevin DuBrow impression during the chorus) are. The songs that originally appeared on the EP are arguably the Sgt. Roxx's best work, but this release shows that they were able to keep hair-metal gems flowing during an increasingly uncooperative music scene.

I always enjoyed Sgt. Roxx, and even the more mainstream Monkey Cocktail that came later, so finally having the definitive collection is great. As rare as Push And Squeeze has been, this release even includes the harder to find Bootleg Tapes. Everything is here, from the rockers to the ballads - the essential collection of Sgt. Roxx party-rock music.
