Another great band from VA! This band is 100 percent original and plays doomy melodic music. Their 7 inch was good, but on this promo they somewhat changed from good growls to melodic clean vocals, which are excellent! 3 hymns are offered on this promo, all are masterpieces, but I think "La Mort D'Amour" is the best; it is an a acoustic piece that will definitely take you into their world of sadness. If I had to compare this to anyone, I guess it may be My Dying Bride or Godsend. This is one of the best bands from VA. And there is nothing I would change about them. 10/10

Some of you maybe familiar with While Heaven Wept's "Into The Wells Of Sorrow" 7" released in '94. While it was good material, "Lovesongs Of The Forsaken" progresses far beyond it, making While Heaven Wept one of the best new doom acts to emerge on the scene. This MCD release is nothing short of incredible. W.H.W. plays a traditional style of pure Doom Metal, but not the Black Sabbath-cloning "hippy" doom that seems to be typical from the U.S. They definitely have a European sound and blend in elements of Progressive Metal as well as other various styles in their music. There are three songs on "Lovesongs…" The first being "In Aeturnum," then an acoustic ballad entitled "La Mort D'Amour" and concluding with "Sorrow Of The Angels." They have a full length coming out in the near future…refer to the interview with band founder Tom Phillips in this issue for further info…

While Heaven Wept is a three piece outfit from Virginia that offers up a three song CD of well executed and diverse doom metal. The first song "In Aeturnum" reminds me of a cross between Candlemass and Solitude Aeturnus, with a lot of late 80's power metal style riffing. The second song "La Mort D'Amour" is a very bare, naked song, with a lot of acoustic guitar work and the vocals are the overwhelming forces in the song. The last track, "Sorrow Of The Angels," is overall the most solid of the three songs, though it does feature a more typical 90's approach to doom. This song is a lot heavier and darker than the other two, and it is a great finish to this CD. No complaints about this band, everything is top quality; musicianship and packaging that is rarely found in the underground today. Classic doom metal with melodic vocals, a definite must for all fans of emotional music.

"Lovesongs Of The Forsaken" should be out by the time you read this. One of the most underrated DOOM bands in the USA right now. Any and all DOOM lovers should immediately contact Tom and buy this CD…it is the next step above My Dying Bride…even better!

This orchestral doom band is really original. I was very surprised when hearing this opus, and thought that it was great to combine pure doom metal in the vein of Solitude Aeternus and Solstice with keyboard orchestration. Everyone must notice the great vocal lines sung in the really forsaken voice of a lonely soul. This is one of the saddest releases I have ever encountered. Watch for the debut CD that will be out in mid 1996. Suitable for depressed and lonely persons!

Costas "The Tyrant," Singing Swords Zine issue 2, Greece (January 1996)
With pride I present to you a very promising Doom Metal band, which (with Memory Garden and Solstice etc. as well) will be the new force in Doom Metal. Melodic, depressive Epic/Power Doom is a very restrictive term to describe the atmosphere of this 3 song mini-CD (A look at WHW's interview might give you more information about the band's beliefs and influences). The only thing I have to say is that, at least two of the three songs ("In Aeternum," "Sorrow Of The Angels") will doom you, bringing you eternal affliction, sorrow, and depression (what more should we expect from a Doom Metal band to call it great?). These two songs will totally satisfy your dark side. For all the fans of majestic depression (?!?). Don't ignore While Heaven Wept or you will regret it for sure!

Eric Nordin, Endtime 'Zine #2, Sweden (March 1996)
Last summer While Heaven Wept released their debut three-track CD "Lovesongs Of The Forsaken" - a record that knocked me out totally! No words can describe this masterpiece of depressive epic doom metal. All I can say is that "Lovesongs Of The Forsaken" without the slightest doubt gets my vote for debut of the year. A record that has got it all…in just 20 minutes.

Tomas Pauza, Haemorrhage 'Zine issue 2, Lithuania (summer 1996)
I think that Tom of W.H.W. was right, saying "Romantic Melancholy best describes W.H.W. musical style." I agree with these words. Also, I would like to add, that the music really is very melodic and everything is played very well. In their music, you can hear the influence of gothic, classical, and new age music. It sounds very original and is impressive. Look for their new album "Sorrow Of The Angels."

Mike Riddick, Vae Solis issue 2, Russia (February 1998)
This is the debut MCD release from perhaps one of the greatest doom efforts ever to arrive from the US scene. This three track opus features a supreme production and performance, displaying fine musicianship and expertise. A fine mixture of melancholy fused with classical sound structures (in acoustic manner), droning percussion, depressive voice, and spectacular synth work. WHILE HEAVEN WEPT conjure a deep atmosphere of sadness and lament matched by no other in the scene. This is a certain band to look for in the future as they have already begun to make a powerful presence in the doom / atmospheric scene.

John, Wishing Well Zine, Greece (1996)
It's difficult to remember their name and the title, but it's impossible to forget their amazing music. While Heaven Wept is a new group in the doom metal genre, and this is their first official release from what I know, only pressed in 1000 pieces. There are three epics - as they say - of doom metal. There is a flowing melancholy and romanticism that you will not find in any other contemporary group. "In Aeturnum" especially (I think it is the best) is dominated by a "suffocating" atmosphere, which is created by "out of this world" melodies. Although the music is slow, there are some powerful breaks that are refreshing, and the vocals make the whole atmosphere even "heavier." This is a unique release that you cannot miss. Surely the most promising doom metal band in the USA.
